Egypt's cabinet reshuffle has been delayed Egypt's ruling Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, has confirmed that only six government departments will be affected as part of the upcoming cabinet reshuffle. A post on the party's Facebook page listed the six departments as the ministries of justice, tourism, culture, legal affairs, electricity and antiques.
Egyptian judge, Omar Sharif, former Assistant to the Justice Minister, is expected to be appointed as head of the Ministry of State for Legal Affairs, whilst former Culture Minister, Mohamed el-Sawy will be reinstated to his previous role.
Government sources claimed that Dr Nagy Najib Mikhail, Museum Inventory Manager at the Ministry of Antiquities, is most likely to handed the portfolio of the Ministry of Antiquities.
Several names are being considered for the senior role at the Ministry of Justice. These include Judge Hossam Gheriani, former head of the Supreme Council, Judge Ahmed Suleiman, Assistant Minister of Justice for Judicial Studies, Judge Yahya Jalal, Assistant Minister of Justice for graft, and Judge Ibrahim Taweel, Vice-President of the Court of Cassation. However, sources confirmed that Suleiman is the favourite to take over from the outgoing Justice Minister Ahmed Mekki.
Candidates for the ministries of tourism and electricity are yet to be finalised.
Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Kandil is expected to officially announce the reshuffle in the next few days, after approval from President Mohammed Morsi.
