Civilian looks at banners displaying images of dead protesters on a barricade in Cairo Egypt's interior ministry has promised supporters of ousted Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi a safe exit if they leave sit-ins in Cairo and Giza "quickly ."
"The Ministry of Interior calls on protesters in Rabaa al-Adawiya and Nahda Square to rethink their positions and listen to the country's best interests. They must leave quickly and clear the sit-ins," the ministry said in a statement published on Facebook.
The ministry added that it was "committed to providing a safe exit and full protection for all who listen to the call and leave the sit-in for the sake of the country's stability."
Director of the General Department of Investigations, Major General Gamal Abdel-Aal told Arab Today that Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim met with security officials on Thursday to discuss removing the protests.
"We devised a security plan for the early hours of Thursday morning, and discussed how the sit-ins could be dispersed," he said
The security official added: "The police will not point their weapons at anyone. We will give several warnings for the peaceful dispersal of protesters," he added.
Meanwhile, supporters of the ousted president flocked to the two squares, converging behind a wall built by Rabaa al-Adawiya protesters in the middle ?of Nasr Road on Thursday afternoon. They also blocked the entrance and exits of Rabaa Square near the traffic lights with large concrete blocks, and stacked sandbags to close the side roads.
Demonstrators chanted against Defence Minister General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and senior figures of the transitional government after dawn prayers.
The local hospital distributed first aid kits to those living in tents, in preparation for any security ?operation to disperse the sit-in.
