Manama – Arab Today

The Bahrain embassy at Belgrave Square in London was attacked on Friday night by a group of individuals, who closed the entrance of the embassy, using steel chains before the British police and security personnel stopped them, according to news of Bahrain.
Video footages uploaded on the Internet showed some of the attackers verbally abused the embassy staff. It was not the first time that the same group assaults the embassy and Bahraini diplomats in London. In fact, they did a similar act on Monday and the British police dispersed them.
The attackers were wanted criminals in Bahrain for terrorism and security related cases. They currently seek asylum in the UK.
Despite official silence, the act was condemned by a Bahraini rights group, which considered it as a clear violation of international pacts and agreements that ensure the protection of diplomats.
“This act violates the international law and has spread fear among Bahraini students, tourists and citizens who were at the embassy at the time of the assault,” Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society (BHRWS) said in a statement yesterday.
The Society has demanded the British government to protect the UK embassy and the diplomatic missions.
“We demand the British government to handover these groups for prosecution and to hold them legally accountable for their actions,” the Society added.
