Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun described the current position as a new world war, saying that the Zionism turned the Arab-Israeli conflict into Arab-Arab war based on ideological and religious conflict between the citizens of the same country.

He called, during his speech before the League of Arab States, for unifying the efforts aiming to keep Jerusalem Islamic-Christian milestones, stressing that his country managed to restore its position and ability to perform a major role in the framework of greater Arab family.

He underlined the major role performed by his country to establish the League of Arab States, blaming the terrorism for the current destruction witnessed in a number of Arab countries. He added, “We meet currently amid critical conditions similar to these conditions witnessed during World War II.”

He stressed, “The League of Arab States has been established in 1945, and its charter was drafted. If the charter was respected, the Arab World would not have witnessed a large number of wars and conflicts.”

On his hand, League of Arab States’ Director General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit welcomed the visit of the Lebanese president, congratulating his for his election as a president of his country. He described his election as positive sign to achieve stability in Lebanon.

He underlined the current challenges facing Lebanon during the current moment due to what he described as “Syria’s civil war” which led a large number of Syrians to seek asylum in the neighboring states, including Lebanon.
