Al-Qaeda militants in Yemen
A leading member of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) was among five militants killed by a US drone strike in the central Yemeni province of al-Bayda on Friday
.
Qaed al-Thahab died after US authorities fired eight missiles from two unmanned drone planes targeting vehicles in village of Manasseh.
The jihadist had celebrated the wedding of three of his brothers on Thursday.
AQAP is the al-Qaeda affiliate in Yemen. The Long War Journal, a website that tracks, reports and analyses the US fight against terrorism, said the drone strike was the first in Yemen since August 10, when the United States targeted AQAP operatives travelling in Lahj province.
Meanwhile, tribal sources told Arab Today that six people were killed during clashes between Salafists and Shiite Houthis in the northern Yemeni governorate of Saada.
The clashes broke a truce signed by tribal mediators earlier in the week. Yemeni security sources said that the likelihood of a ceasefire in the region is now unlikely.
The presidential committee formed to bring an end to the clashes in Saada expressed its frustration over violation of the ceasefire.
State sources said that the committee had submitted a number of recommendations and proposals to contain the deteriorating situation.
