Libyan capital Tripoli witnessed intensive military moves
Tripoli - Fatima Al Saadawy

Libyan capital Tripoli witnessed intensive military moves on late Wednesday days after the clashes that erupted between militants loyal to internationally-recognized National Accordance government on one hand and other militias of the so-called National Salvation government.

According to security sources, Tripoli’s streets witnessed intensive presence of security forces amid increasing checkpoints, as the armored vehicles have been deployed in a number of areas, including Bousleim and the roads leading to the airport.

They added that the Libyan authority raised a state of security alert, as they closed a number of streets in the mentioned areas and also in the surrounding areas of the presidential palaces controlled by the Salvation government. The sources revealed that the recent moves came as they received information that the opposition militants moved to control sites in these areas.

The security source added that ministries of Interior and Defense in the National Accordance government deployed their forces in the streets to keep the stability in the Libyan capital and to prevent any potential attempts to destabilize the situation there. They clarified that the current state of alert will continue for four days, saying that the moves are to present a clear message that Tripoli is unifies and to call the different parties to join the campaign to make Tripoli as a safe capital.

On the other hand, British Ambassador to Tripoli Peter Melet expressed, on his Twitter account, his concern over the renewal of clashes in the Libyan capital, stressing the need for conducting a serious dialogue between the different conflicting parties to end the current crisis witnessed in the country.

The National Salvation government, on its hand, issued a statement, condemning the attempts of regional powers to interfere in the Libyan affairs, accusing these powers of working to raise tensions among the Libyan parties to achieve their own interests at the expense of the Libyan people.

On the humanitarian side, Libyan health official Najla Al Barghathi revealed that the Libyan hospitals received 268 persons, including women and children, during February, as they have been injured in incidents of violence and robbery in Benghazi
