Two female tourists from the mainland sustained slight injuries after a passenger train derailed in eastern Taiwan on Wednesday afternoon, according to the railway authority.

The last three cars of Train 307, which was bound for Hualien County from Kaohsiung City, derailed at 2:49 p.m. in Hualien. Two of the three cars overturned, according to the railway authority.

The two tourists, aged 19 and 45, who were sat in the ninth car, were taken to a local hospital for treatment. There were around 200 passengers on board at the time of the accident.

The service between two nearby stations was disrupted. A replacement bus service was provided.

Earlier this month, a passenger train derailed in the east of the island, but no passengers were hurt.
