Sydney - AFP
Tiger Airways will resume domestic flights in Australia on Friday, the budget carrier said after authorities lifted a six-week ban imposed due to safety concerns. Tiger Airways Australia was Wednesday given the green light to resume services after the country's aviation regulator imposed new conditions on the airline as well as an initial limit on the number of sectors flown. "Tiger Airways Australia will recommence ticket sales and will implement a gradual resumption of domestic services from Friday 12 August 2011," the airline said in a statement. "The airline is resuming services with a simplified flight programme in order to focus on flying popular and profitable routes." Flights will initially resume between Melbourne and Sydney. The airline said a new flight schedule will initially consolidate the business into a single crew base operating from Melbourne's Tullamarine airport, as it confirmed the imminent closure of its Adelaide crew base. "Tiger Airways Australia is committed to a safe, viable and long-term future in Australia," the company said. "The airline remains committed to regaining the confidence and trust of its customers, through an enhanced focus on punctuality and convenience, while offering Australia’s most affordable air fares."
