Abu Dhabi - WAM

Abu Dhabi Airports’ executive management hosted a team from the General Authority for Civil Aviation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on a tour of the current facilities at Abu Dhabi International Airport, AUH, and its Midfield Terminal Building, MTB.

The tour started with a walk around the 742,000 sqm MTB structure. Beginning in the baggage reclaim hall, which will house ten carousels, the group moved into the area housing the baggage handling system, which is nearly entirely installed. Twenty-eight kilometres of conveyor belt has been put into place, which will be capable of handling up to 19,200 bags per hour.

In the impressive centre of the terminal, the central processor, the group saw how the hotel and office areas are taking shape, under the vast 18 steel arches supporting the roof structure, the largest of which is 180m wide and 52m high.

They also moved further into the building to see the spaces allocated for duty-free and food and beverage, and one of the four piers that are nearing completion.

Acting CEO Abdul Majeed Al Khoori commented, "We are honoured by the visit by the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation, as such initiatives foster further collaboration and knowledge sharing that will benefit the entire industry within the region. We shared expertise on revenue and operations management, and reviewed with our guests our processes and procedures with passengers and airlines and gave them a preview of what this will be like once we move into our future home, the Midfield Terminal Building."

Following the MTB tour, the group toured terminals T1 and T3 at AUH where they were briefed on the overall operations, the smart travel process and overall passenger journey through the Capital’s gateway.
