London - Arabstoday
Ryanair has announced it will make further cuts in its operations at Edinburgh Airport in Scotland following a collapse in talks over charges at the location. A total of eight routes - Bratislava, Bremen, Frankfurt, Fuerteventura, Gothenburg, Kaunas, Lodz and Poznan – will be cut, with the loss of 500 jobs, Ryanair said. Some 60 flights a week will be axed. Ryanair has been unable to reach an agreement with airport operator BAA over the cost of take-off and landing sports at the airport. In February, Ryanair cut five routes from its summer schedule. Deputy chief executive Michael Cawley said: “Ryanair regrets BAA Edinburgh Airport’s rejection of our proposals for a competitive cost base which would allow Ryanair to further grow our traffic and routes for winter 2012 and beyond. “Sadly, BAA Edinburgh seems to prefer higher costs, even if it means fewer passengers and jobs at Edinburgh.”
