Muscat - Arabstoday

Residents in Oman will have an affordable option to fly to India when IndiGo, India's second largest airline, starts Muscat-Mumbai flights from October 10. Aditya Ghosh, IndiGo's president, promised at a media briefing at Chedi Muscat on Wednesday that the airline will always charge lower than the lowest fare offered by an airline from Muscat to an Indian destination. He said the airline will offer a 30-kg baggage allowance. IndiGo is offering four flights a week at an inaugural return fare of 88 Omani riyals (Dh839.45). "We have 25,000 seats for the inaugural fare," he added. "Muscat is a key market for us and the large Indian population which is based in Oman can experience IndiGo product offerings," the airline chief said. He added that IndiGo was committed towards providing affordable fares to the growing market of frequent travellers in Oman and likewise, offer increased daily flights in future. "We are diligently working with the authorities to get additional rights to cater to the growing India-Oman traffic." He pointed out that looking at the fact that a large number of the 800,000-strong Indian expatriate community come from south of India, the airline was committed to starting services from three South Indian destinations - Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai. "Depending upon the uptake of its services, more routes on the Indian sector will be added to the network," he said. Ghosh hopes to create the same magic and success in the international market.
