Frankfurt - QNA

Air traffic controllers at Germany's Frankfurt Airport on Tuesday said they would strike this week in solidarity with their ground control colleagues. The strike came after the company failed to reach a compromise on wages and conditions with a labor union over the weekend. The strike at one of Europe's busiest air transport hubs was set to run on Wednesday from 5 am (0400 GMT) to 11 am, Markus Siebers, an official with the ground control union, told the German news agency (DPA). Talks between Fraport AG, the airport operator, and the union of the ground control staff, who guide the planes to and from their stands, broke down Friday after a week of intermittent industrial action and hundreds of flight cancellations. A strike by tower staff could lead to more cancellations among the airport's 1,300 daily take-offs and landings. The strike action Monday, after the company failed to reach a compromise on wages and conditions with a labor union over the weekend.
