London - Arabstoday

easyJet, the UK’s largest airline, has today begun operating its new route from London Luton Airport to Reykjavik in Iceland.  The inaugural flight took off from London Luton Airport this morning and will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays with affordable fares starting from as little as £32.99 for a one way ticket and £58.81 for a return fare (including taxes). In response to the popularity of the route, easyJet has committed to a full year-round service to Reykjavik to meet passenger demand, with seats for the 2012 winter season going on sale on Thursday 29 March. easyJet flights will land at Keflavik International Airport, offering passengers a first glimpse of Iceland’s breathtaking scenery. Set against a backdrop of snow-topped mountains the capital, Reykjavik, is known for its weekend nightlife, health spas, world-class restaurants and countless museums. Iceland is famed for its natural wonderland of spouting geysers, gigantic glaciers and the tranquil Blue Lagoon. During the winter months, travellers can experience the spectacular northern lights and in the summer months the island enjoys warm temperatures and up to 22 hours of daylight. Paul Simmons, easyJet’s UK Director, said: “We are thrilled our first flight to Iceland has taken off from London Luton Airport today and are pleased with the fantastic response we have received from passengers.  This is set to be one of our most successful destinations to date, and as a result we have committed to a year-round service. “easyJet’s pledge is to make travel easy and affordable and this new route will help boost business and leisure travel to and from Iceland.” With the addition of the new route to Iceland, easyJet now flies to a total of 30 countries. The airline is established as one of Europe’s largest and it currently operates more than 200 aircraft across more than 600 routes.
