Improvements made in the Muscat International Airport are going full steam ahead and companies have been invited to submit tenders to build a new warehouse and provide maintenance services in the passenger terminal building.

The Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC) on Thursday said, “it would like to invite international and local companies registered with the Tender Board to bid” to do the required work.

The work includes design and supervision consultancy services for the construction of a central warehouse building at the airport. OAMC is also looking for a company that can design, supply and install storage systems equipment and tools for maintenance workshops.

In addition, the airports management company is inviting tenders for comprehensive operation and maintenance services for electromechanical and civil facilities in the passenger terminal building.

Although OAMC said the bid opening date will be announced at a later stage, it requested all participating companies to “provide a bank guarantee, issued by locally registered bank, for the sum of not less than 1 per cent of the tender value.”

Speaking at the CAPA Global Airport Leaders’ Forum in May 2017, OAMC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Aimen Sultan Al Hosni said its concession with the Oman government was to develop the grounds around the Muscat airport. Al Hosni said developments are “a work in progress,” which he expects to be completed by the deadline set for the second quarter of 2017.

Presently, the Muscat International Airport is ranked among the top 10 airports in the Middle East, with an average annual growth forecast of 7.9 per cent.

OAMC said it is aiming for Muscat Airport to be among the world top 20 airports by 2020.
