Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza has today inaugurated the 220kV airport terminal.
The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) Chief Executive Officer Shaikh Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa and senior officials attended the opening ceremony.
The new terminal will feed the new airport terminal building and will be one of 15 such facilities along with 48 66 kV sub-stations – in addition to other commercial and development projects in Muharraq Governorate.
The minister said that the inauguration of this project comes within the strategic plan to provide power required for the expansion of Bahrain International Airport and expanding the electricity transmission networks in Bahrain.
He paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.
He commended the Urban and Infrastructure Ministerial committee, chaired by Deputy Premier Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa for following up key development projects .
EWA Chief praised dedicated employees who complete the plant in record twelve months, thanking project consultants and contractors for following up and completing the station in time.
The supply and installation was undertaken by the Swiss company ABB, while the transformers were supplied by Korean company HHI. The cables for the project were supplied by Saudi Cables.
The civil works of the plant were completed by Bahrain's Shabu Construction Company and electrical cable works by Alkomed Bahrain, while the implementation was supervised by the Irish Consulting Company ESBI. The total cost of this plant was BD 17.243.349 million
