Mexico City - AFP

While airlines worldwide grounded their Boeing 787 Dreamliners over a fire risk, top Mexican carrier Aeromexico said Thursday that it was maintaining its order for 19 of the US-made aircraft. "The airline maintains its decision to add 19 Boeing 787 Dreamliners because it has absolute confidence in the Boeing company and all of its products," AeroMexico said in a statement. Though the statement acknowledged the US Federal Aviation Administration's decision to ground US-registered Dreamliners, Mexico's biggest airline said the aircraft were still scheduled to be delivered in the middle of the year. "The decision to acquire the Boeing 787 Dreamliner follows Aeromexico's commitment to maintaining one of the most modern, safe and efficient fleets in the world, to the benefit of all of its passengers and in support of our country's development," the statement said. The Mexican government also ordered a Dreamliner last year for its president, but has not made any public statements on the matter. The purchase was made before the new leader, Enrique Pena Nieto, took office in December. Authorities in Chile, Ethiopia, Europe, India, Japan and Qatar followed the lead of the FAA by halting all 787 flights after a Japanese Dreamliner was forced by a smoke alert to make an emergency landing on Wednesday.
