Damascus - SANA

Ministry of Culture honoured Thursday actors and director of Syrian film "Mariam" which screens a historic era of the Syrians since the end of the Ottoman occupation at the beginning of 20th century till today through 3 stories of three women named Mariam. The film was directed by Basel al-Khateeb with the participation of actors Sabah al-Jazaeri, Sulaf Fawakherji, Maison Abu Saad, Bassam Lutfi, Lama al-Hakim and many others. It took part in three international cinema festivals and gained five awards in Morocco, Algeria and Oman. "The film is a remarkable work with all standards as it occupied the first place in many festivals although it was produced during a stage when the Syrian cinema suffers boycott," Minister of Culture Lubana Mshaweh said during the honoring ceremony. She added the film embodies motherhood, Syria history, Homeland love and the Syrian citizen who has suffered a lot, but who has got up of his dilemma. Mohammad al-Ahmad, Director of General establishment of Cinema, for his part, said the Establishment will produce other films that imitate social and human problems to which the Syrian citizen has been subjected because of the crisis. Director of the film Basel al-Khateeb added "Mariam" work has an important value that will last through history because it will be a historic and artistic document. The film actors thanked Ministry of Culture for this honor.
