Ali Al Haggar releases Dehket Wattan

Ali Al Haggar launched to a small gathering his album "Dehket Wattan" (Homeland Laughter) yesterday May 9. "Dehket Watan" is dedicated to the martyrs of the Egyptian revolution and names each of them in an artistic gesture to honour their memory. In attendance was the sister of the martyr Mina Daniel, musician Ahmed Al Haggar and writer and activist Alaa Al Aswany. Al Haggar sang a few of the songs featuring in the album "Dehket Al Masageen," "Nesmat Al Azhar," "Ahlam Baseeta," and "Dai 'Eainy." Al Haggar talked to filfan.com of the motivation behind his album saying we longed for a hero for over 30 years and I chose those who gave their souls for freedom. Ali rejected the restrictions on art and creativity stating that Egyptians are religious yet very romantic and they enjoy love stories and affection on screen as much as they do reciting holy scriptures. He blames the old regime for feeding the people debasing forms of art to maintain a status of unawareness and law taste.
