Al Azhar announced that a meeting will be held in the Italian capital Rome on Monday between Al Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed el Tayyeb and Vatican Pope Francis.
The two sides will discuss efforts exerted to spread peace, coexistence and the culture of dialogue between people.
The visit is the first of its kind for the two religious figures, Al Azhar said in a statement.
The meeting will be followed by a discussion led by Al Azhar Undersecretary Abbas Shoman to probe activating the work committees between Al Azhar and the Vatican.
