UN envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura

UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura met on Tuesday with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
The meeting in Tehran took up the crisis in Syria and the need to find out a political solution to the conflict there, said de Mistura's spokeswoman Jessy Chahine in a statement issued in Geneva.
De Mistura stressed that there is no military solution to the conflict in Syria, the statement said.
All parties should be committed to protecting civilians, it stressed.
The statement made it clear that de Mistura's talks in Iran are part of efforts to listen to all regional and international views about Syria with the aim to activate the Geneva Communique.
