Tunis - TAP

Secretary General of the Tunisian General Labour union (UGTT) Nourredine Taboubi met on Friday in Tunis with United Nations’ Repporteur and Independent Expert on Foreign Debt and Human Rights Juan Pablo Bohoslavsky.

During this meeting, Taboubi called on Bohoslavsky to support UGTT’s vision to convert Tunisia’s debts into investments and to return looted funds.

He further stressed the importance to support the democratic experience in Tunisia and to not adopt austerity policies that can harm this experience, calling, in this regard, on the UN Human Rights Council to help Tunisia in restoring looted funds.

He also urged Tunisia’s friends to support the union that called on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to disburse the last installment of the loan given to Tunisia to pursue reforms to counter tax evasion and smuggling.

Juan Pablo Bohoslavsky is in an official visit to Tunisia from February 20 to 28.
