Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received the special coordinator of the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General to the Middle East Nickolay Mladenov and updated him on latest political developments and the situation in Gaza Strip.
President Abbas stressed the importance of cancelling the administrative committee, which was set up by Hamas in Gaza, and enabling the national accord government to exercise its duties and prepare the general elections.
He underlined the importance of holding the general elections which, he said, will pave the way to ending divisions between the Palestinian factions and achieving the national reconciliation.
Mladenov highlighted the crucial role of the UN and its agencies which are operating in Palestine to support people.
