Doha - KUNA

UNESCO's 38th session of the World Heritage Committee approved Monday a Palestinian and Jordanian a resolution calling on Israel to immediately freeze all excavations and illegal violations in the old town in occupied Jerusalem city.
The resolution, winning approval of 12 members against one with eight abstained, expressed regret to the damage to historic ceramic decorations located at the gates of a mosque Dome, in addition to damage to doors and windows of historic Al-Aqsa Mosque as result of Israeli police drills inside the holy site.
The resolution denounced Israel's decision to prevent the arrival of a UNESCO team to inspect the site, and the threat posed by Israeli policy of Judaizing the place and which also aims to change reality on the ground.
Meanwhile, the committee agreed to enlist nine new sites on the World Heritage List.
UNESCO inscribed properties in the Russian Federation, Costa Rica, Vietnam, India, Philippines and Denmark.
It also approved the extensions of a site in China and two transboundary sites in Poland and Belarus, and Denmark and Germany.
UNESCO 38th session will continue until June 25th
