Sharjah Government Communication Award
Sharjah - WAM

Sharjah Media Centre has extended the submission deadline for the 2014 Sharjah Government Communication Award to November 16, 2014.
The extension of deadline will allow a greater number of federal and local government entities to submit their entries for the award that has been restructured to include new categories for the 2014 edition.
Sharjah Media Centre also hosted a workshop for stakeholders in government communication in Dubai government entities, in cooperation with the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government, to brief them on the modalities of applying for an international award.
Held at the Intercontinental Dubai Festival City on October 30, the expert led session informed the participants on how to submit entries in conformance with the award categories and criteria.
The initiative, which reiterated the Sharjah Government Communication Award’s commitment to ensuring transparency in the evaluation process, additionally offered an overview of the judging mechanism that such global awards mandate.
Osama Samra, Director of Sharjah Media Centre, said, "We are impressed with the number of submissions we have received to date for the 2014 Sharjah Government Communication Award. However, we have a number of potential participants requesting for additional time to complete the application procedures and seeking permission to run for more than one category. We are confident that our decision to extend the deadline will attract a higher number of submissions and make the awards even more competitive." Samra added, "The Award in its current edition covers various communication processes carried out by government communication departments including strategic planning, internal communication approaches, methods of crisis management, communication campaigns, and the appropriate use of social networking platforms. It is notable that most of the entries have factored in the changes introduced to the awards structure this year.
"Based on last year’s event feedback and with a view to further raising awareness among communication students across the UAE’s various universities, we have introduced a new category - Best Graduation Project on Government Communication. We hope this will encourage more students to think of future careers in this important field." The Sharjah Government Communication Award welcomes submissions from government communication departments, officials and students in the UAE. Entries are invited in both English and Arabic on http://www.communicationaward.ae/.
