New Suez Canal
Cairo - MENA

The New Suez Canal has attracted the attention of a wide range of well-known columnists at Egyptian press institutions Thursday.

In al Akhbar newspaper, columnist Galal Dowidar called for more plans to promote the New Suez Canal as a tourist destination.

The Suez Canal plays a significant role in transporting exports and imports of world countries and boosting international trade, he said.

Dowidar expected the new shipping lane to attract the attention of the tour operators, especially after the completion of the Suez Canal economic development plan.

Columnist Fahmy Enaba, in Al Gomhoria newspaper, said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi should be proud of the Egyptian people, who stood by him in all difficult times to complete the New Suez Canal.

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab should be also happy after the finalization of this national project despite the various challenges, he said.

Enaba urged creating an honor panel grouping all persons who contributed to completing this project in a record time, atop of them is chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish, Ismailia governor Yassin Taher and chairman of the engineering authority of the Armed Forces Kamel el Wazir.

Famous columnist Galal Aref said in Al Ahram newspaper that the Egyptian people should be proud after the finalization of this great project at a time the country wages a fierce war against terrorism.

The June 30 revolution was necessary to protect the country from the fascist rule of the Muslim Brotherhood group, he said.

Aref expected the New Suez Canal to be a starting point for more development projects across the country in the future.
