Kuwait elected to UNESCO executive board

Kuwait's Permanent Delegate to the UNESCO Dr. Ali Al-Tarrah said the country's candidate former minister of education Dr. Hassan Al-Ibrahim won a seat at the Organization's Executive Board for a four-year term of office. "Dr. Al-Ibrahim is the second Arab member of the 58-member Board; he won 128 votes at the elections," Al-Tarrah said in statements to KUNA here. "The elections were held during the ongoing 37th session of the Organization's General Conference," he pointed out. Acting under the authority of the General Conference, the Board examines the programme of work for the Organization and corresponding budget estimates submitted to it by the Director-General. It meets twice a year except for the General Conference year, when it meets additionally after the General Conference has finished. Non-member states of the Board, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations and movements are invited as observers.
