Judicial Museum to be named after late Egyptian prosecutor

Justice Minister Ahmed el Zend on Tuesday approved naming the Judicial Museum after late prosecutor general Hesham Barakat, who was assassinated on June 29 in a terrorist attack on his motorcade.

Chairman of the judicial heritage documentation committee Chancellor Mamdouh Hashish had proposed to name a hall inside the new headquarters of the Public Prosecution office in New Cairo.

Zend also ordered to provide full support to complete work at the museum.

Hashish said that the museum houses rare antique judicial documents, sculptures and paintings collected from different courts over the past 150 years.

The museum also documents efforts made by Egyptian judges to assure the judiciary independence in the country, as of the abolition of mixed courts, till the fierce attacks by the Muslim Brotherhood regime, Hashish added.

The chairman of the judicial heritage documentation committee said that late prosecutor general Hesham Barakat had coordinated with Minister of Antiquities Mamdouh El Damaty to complete the new HQ of the museum.
