Cairo Opera House to feature Brahms

On Saturday, 4 February, the Cairo Symphony Orchestra will perform works by Johannes Brahms and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The concert will include Brahms' Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in D minor, along with Rimsky-Korsakov's Symphonic Suite Op. 35, "Scheherazade," based on a story from the "Arabian Nights." The tales of the Arabian Nights date back to the 10th century. Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, based on one of the Nights' most famous characters, contains numerous elements characteristic of Russian music, along with some “oriental” flavours. Through music, the composer plays on a number of tales, from “The Sea and Sinbad's Ship” in the first movement to “The Festival in Baghdad” in the final movement. The concert will begin at 8pm on Saturday, 4 February, at the Main Hall of the Cairo Opera House.
