Education Minister, Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, attended the 39th session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO)’s General Conference officially appointed Audrey Azoulay (France) to the post of Director-General of the Organisation, who was elected on 13 October.
Bahrain participated in the final vote that endorsed the choice of the Executive Board.

The minister, on behalf of the Kingdom of Bahrain, congratulated the new UNESCO Director-General, affirming Bahrain’s support for UNNESCO’s efforts to promote the culture of dialogue, tolerance, cooperation, peace, knowledge and culture.

The Bahraini delegation’s participation in the 39th session of UNESCO’s General Conference was fruitful.

In addition to its election among the deputy presidents of the General Conference, the kingdom won the membership of a number of committees, including the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS), the Information for All Programme (IFAP) Committee and the Education for All Committee.

The kingdom also maintained its membership in a number of other committees.

On the sidelines of the UNESCO’s General Conference, the Education Minister met the officials of the UNESCO King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of ICTs in Education, and was updated about its latest developments, as well as about the ongoing preparations to hold the 8th edition of the prestigious international award in which more than 700 researchers and institutions have so far submitted their applications.

The minister affirmed Bahrain’s keenness to intensifying in presence in UNESCO, in line with leadership’s interest in developing education, sciences and culture.
