Cairo - Arabstoday

The establishment of the first theatre club in Assiut, Upper Egypt was announced Monday by Naiem El-Assiuty, a local playwright. The aim of the club is to develop the city's theatre scene, support theatrical experiences and expose new talent, El-Assuity said. "Establishing a theatre club is critical, as theatre is one of the most important art forms and has the ability to bring about cultural change," El-Assiuty said. "Creating a new Egypt will not succeed without adjusting faulty practices and bad habits. We must influence the masses. Drama and theatre that suit diverse segments of the population can have a great effect in that regard." The club is located in the Cultural Palace of Ahmed Bahaaeddin, which is under the authority of the Public Authority for Cultural Palaces, and is now open for new members to join. The idea for the theatre club was approved and embraced by the great poet Saad Abdel-Rahman, head of the Public Authority for Cultural Palaces. Members of the club will include writers, actors, directors, playwrights, songwriters, interior decorators, musical composers, distributors, set and costume designers, lighting and sound technicians, as well as theatre enthusiasts. Naiem El-Assuity is a member of the Writers' Union of Egypt and a founding member of the Union of Artists from Egypt’s Governorates. From / Ahram Online
