Khartoum - Abdelgoum Ashmeag
Sudan’s Minister of Oil Awad al-Jaz has criticised those responsible for an explosion targeting an oil pipeline in the disputed Abyei region. During a press conference on Friday, al-Jaz said the attackers tried to hamper Sudan's oil production. The minister disclosed that engineers had managed repair the pipeline, with work underway on resuming the technical processes for pumping the oil. Al-Jaz claimed that his government is keen to maintain peace with South Sudan, and left no stone unturned in safeguarding the future of both nations from potential war in the future. He explained that authorities in Khartoum decided suspended the pumping of South Sudanese oil through Sudan because of the Southern regime's continuous support for the insurgents. Al-Jaz said the international community must tackle the threat imposed by insurgents against the security of his country, and accused the government of South Sudan of supporting them. Following the blast, the Sudanese army pointed the finger at Darfur’s Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), adding that South Sudan had provided them with logistical support.
