Hanoi - Xinhua

WB would continue maintaining the loans with preferential interest rates for Vietnam to help it develop infrastructure, poverty reduction and response to climate change. World Bank (WB) Vice President for East Asia and Pacific James Adams made the statement here on Friday during a meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. The WB official highly evaluated cooperation between Vietnam and the WB, and the Vietnamese government's management in stabilizing the macro economy and interblending policies in projects to ensure social welfare for the poor people, pledging that WB will support the country in its socio-economic development. Vietnam highly appreciates the WB's assistance to Vietnam over the years in poverty reduction, policy consultancy, infrastructure investment, and response to climate change. Vietnam-WB cooperation in projects on poverty reduction has brought practical results and the two sides should seek better solutions in the coming years, said Dung. To boost the Vietnam-WB cooperation, both sides should target to major goals, including connecting WB's loans for 2011-2015 with the country's socio-economic development plan for 2011-2015, especially in infrastructure, poverty reduction, human resource training, and response to climate change, Dung added. The WB leaders will gather this December to review loan sources for Vietnam, and the country should set up plans in response to climate change and present them to the WB for loans in 2012, Adams advised.
