Bratislava - XINHUA
Slovaks prefer depositing their savings in banks rather than borrowing money from these institutions, with their bank savings worth more than 40 percent compared to their loans, according to data released by Postova Banka available on Saturday. The bank's analyst Eva Sadovska said that Slovak bank deposits have hit record highs since the beginning of 2013. Slovaks deposited more than 25.5 billion euros (about 33.15 billion U.S. dollars) in banks during the first quarter of this year despite the fact that interest rates on fix-term deposit have been falling steadily. In addition, according to the data published by the European Central Bank (ECB), the average Slovak has 3,585 euros deposited in bank accounts and 5,008 eruos in bank loans. Across the European Union (EU), the highest amounts of money are deposited by people living in Luxembourg which amount to 87,145 euros. (1 euro = 1.3 U.S. dollars)
