London - UPI
People in Britain can now buy the world's cheapest tablet computer, a $49 commercial version of a tablet developed for Indian students, its maker says. The Datawind UbiSlate 7Ci is the commercial version of the Aakash 2 tablet originally produced for students at Indian universities. The 7-inch display tablet operates on a custom version of Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, ZDNet reported Monday. The display resolution is 800 by 480, and the device will sell with 4GB of storage, which can be increased to 32GB with a microSD card. The touchscreen tablet is being sold through Datawind's website, www.ubislate.co.uk., and is coming to the United States as well, ZDNet said.
