Stern brought to France to build Mistral-type helicopter carrier for Russia

The construction of a Mistral-type helicopter carrier for Russia at the French shipyards is going on according to the schedule. Representatives of the DCNS company, which is in charge of construction, confirmed that a first helicopter carrier Vladivostok will be built already at the end of this year and will be ready for combat duty in 2014. On Tuesday, the stern of the helicopter carrier was brought to a shipyard in Saint Nazaire on the Atlantic coast of France. The stern was assembled in Russia and was delivered by sea from St. Petersburg in early July. “Thus, the Russian shipbuilders honoured their liabilities under the contract to build a first Mistral-type helicopter carrier,” DCNS noted. After The Vladivostok is fully assembled and set afloat, the warship will pass the procedure of staffing with Russian specialists according the requirements of the Russian Navy. The contract for the construction of two helicopter carriers for the Russian Navy was signed in June 2011. The first helicopter carrier is to be put into service of the Russian Navy in 2014. Russia will receive a second helicopter carrier Sevastopol in 2015.
