Samsung, Hynix dominate global DRAM market in Q1

Samsung Electronics Co. and Hynix Semiconductor Inc., the world's two largest makers of computer memory chips, dominated the global market for dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips in the first quarter despite decreasing demand for personal computers, a report showed Monday. According to the report by Taiwan-based DRAMeXchange Technology Inc., Samsung accounted for 39.8 percent, or US$3.31 billion, of the global DRAM market in the January-March period. The DRAM chips run multiple programs simultaneously on personal computers.
