The State of Kuwait has stressed to the United Nations Disarmament Commission the importance of political willpower to intensify and accelerate collective efforts to free the Middle East of nuclear weapons.
This came in a speech, late on Tuesday, by First Secretary of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations, Abdulaziz Amash Al-Ajmi, during meetings of the Committee on the 2016 Disarmament Discussions. He stressed in his speech that a free zone of nuclear arms and other weapons of mass destruction can actively boost international efforts to create a world free of such weapons. He added "the Middle East is still far from achieving this objective, as a result of Israel's (intransigent) position on the nuclear weapons' (disarmament), its refusal to accede" to the relevant international treaties and subjecting its facilities to inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
