A Moroccan businesswoman has just been selected by the World Economic Forum to be on the list of eight co-chairs of its regional summit on the Middle East and North Africa.

Khadija Idrissi Janati, entrepreneur, expert in public relations and communication of influence, feminist and advocate of the economic empowerment of women, first broke into the prestigious network of the World Economic Forum in March 2016 with her appointment as Young Global Leader.

“I am proud to be the first Moroccan to co-chair a World Economic Forum summit. The choice of this prestigious organization reflects the role that Moroccan women play in the development of the economy of the country and the region,” said Khadija Idrissi Janati.

She added that this choice “also shows that our country is regarded as a key player in the strategic reflection on the region’s future, a country with positive experience in several sectors that deserves to be shared and discussed.”

Janati is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Morocco (AFEM) and the National Council of the National Rally of Independents (RNI). She was received by US President Barack Obama in September 2014 in recognition of her work to promote women’s conditions in Morocco and their economic empowerment.

The Summit will take place May 19 to 21 in Jordan in partnership with the King Abdullah II Development Fund (KAFD), with the support and participation of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah. It will bring together more than 1,000 government officials, business and civil society leaders from more than 50 countries and will form a collaborative platform for shaping the future of the Middle East and North Africa through public-private cooperation.

In addition to the economic aspect of this summit, the meeting will also provide an opportunity to reflect on ongoing geopolitical and humanitarian changes, supporting dialogue among stakeholders on the situation in Syria, Iraq and Libya, and the global refugee crisis.
