Amman - Arab Today

Jordanian Senate president Faisal al Fayez, on behalf of Jordanian King Abdullah II, opened on Wednesday the Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP)'s Global Summit.

Six Egyptian female parliamentarians; Amal Zakaria Qotb, Hayam Halawa, Amal Tarbiyah, Mageda Nasr, Sanaa Barghoush and Sarah Saleh, are participating in the two-day summit.

Speaking to MENA correspondent, MP Amal Zakaria said she will post the summiteers on Egypt's experiment in promoting the women's role in political life throughout its history.

The event will be the first of its kind to be held in the Middle East North African region and will bring together 500 female parliamentarians from 86 countries.

The WIP and the Jordanian House of Representatives of Jordan co-host the summit of female parliamentarians, in cooperation with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The Council of World Women Leaders, the network of women Presidents and Prime Ministers, will convene its members on this occasion.

The summit will discuss the progress made by women over the past few years, across the MENA region, to increase their participation in political decision-making.
