Recently a British novel Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James made news across the world for its growing popularity with the fairer sex. The novel in question is part of a triple-X trilogy, with the first part said to cover sex games and a bondage-loving billionaire. So does that mean the demure image of the woman is in for a makeover? Why women turn to erotic novels? Says clinical psychologist Dr Seema Hingorrany, "Erotic novels help women fantasise and live vicariously through them. Some of them find it hard to admit that they watch porn, but easier to admit they read a racy novel." Why a book rather than a man? A recent scientific study says that 30-45 minutes of reading erotic literature causes a chemical reaction in the female brain, resulting in increased arousal. So, there goes.
