London - WAM
Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Development and International Co-operation, reviewed with a number of British female leaders the UAE achievements in national, regional and international sectors. The discussions included international development, human care and the empowerment of women. In a statement today, the Ministry of Development and International Cooperation confirmed that the UAE has given a great deal of attention to affirming women's roles in the process of development in the fields of finance, culture, society, and international humanitarian achievements. Sheikha Lubna stated that these efforts are reflected in Emirati women's achievements in various sectors, including politics, where she now occupies ministerial positions and is active in the Federal National Council, Judiciary, Police Force, Armed Forces, and other vital areas. The minister also referred to the attention given by the wise leadership of the UAE to the importance of women's roles since the early days of the Union. This attention reinforced her capabilities while maintaining the integrity of the UAE society's deeply-rooted heritage and customs. Developments in international action were reviewed, along with the recommendations of a variety of women's organizations and fora, as well as those of international organizations dedicated to the protection of women and children. The review process encouraged an exchange of expertise between the UAE and UK in the aforementioned fields. On their part, the UK female leaders, including Lynne Featherstone, a member of the British Parliament, Baroness Symons, Chairperson-elect of the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce and other prominent figures in the British businesswomen's sector, expressed their admiration for the UAE achievements, particularly in the human development sector, the reinforcement of youth capabilities, and increasing the potential for Emirati women.
