LOS ANGELES - AFP

Sarah Ferguson, the former wife of Britain's Prince Andrew, says it was "difficult" that she wasn't invited to last month's royal wedding, but blamed herself for the snub. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, she said it was all the more painful because of memories of her own wedding in Westminster Abbey, where Prince William and Kate Middleton wed on April 29. "I was not invited, and I chose to go and be in Thailand in a place called Camelia and the jungle embraced me," said the 51-year old, in an interview set to air on Wednesday, cited by People magazine. The snub was "so difficult, because I wanted to be there with my girls and to be getting them dressed and to go as a family. And also it was so hard because the last bride up that aisle was me," she added. Ferguson, known as "Fergie", has long been viewed as somewhat of an embarrassment to the royal family, particularly last year when she was caught in a newspaper sting apparently trying to sell access to her ex-husband. Asked if she felt ostracized by the wedding snub, she said: "No, not ostracized. "I felt that I ostracized myself by my behavior, by the past, that I sort of wore a hair shirt and beat myself up most of the day thinking and regretting why did I make such a mistake? "I think what I felt was that I went through the phase of feeling so totally worthless and that (it) was quite right they didn't invite me. Why would they?" added Ferguson, who separated from Andrew in 1992. But she said Middleton looked beautiful, and said William's mother, the late Princess Diana, would have been proud. "Both of them did a great job. And I really love the feeling that sort of Diana and I both weren't there. But I'm here to say how proud she would have been, and Kate looked utterly beautiful."
