Berlin - Anadolu

Germany's Green Party Co-Chair Claudia Roth, who failed to receive the votes she expected and achieve the party's targets in the general elections held last Sunday in Germany, said that she would not be a candidate for co-chairing position again after submitting her resignation. Roth told a press conference that she would not be a candidate for party administration, adding it was time for reformation in the party. Mistakes were made during the election campaign and the party failed to reach its targets, Roth said and also added that she did not want to be the vice-president of Federal Parliament, either. Roth became co-chair of Green Party for the first time in 2001 and resigned from this position after becoming a deputy at the end of 2002. Re-elected co-chair in 2004, she continued the party administartion position until now. All Green party staff submitted their resignation on Monday in the aftermath of the general elections. On the other hand, the other co-chair of the party Cem Ozdemir announced his candidacy for co-chairmanship that is to be decided in November, 2013. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel consolidated her power, and even increased her party alliance votes by almost 8 points from 33.8 in 2009 to 41.7 in 2013 in the general elections held on September 22.
