Rights body acts in Franco-Mexican child custody fight

A human rights body urged Mexico to help a French woman see her children in a bitter custody battle with her ex-husband, an influential former Mexican governor.
The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights called on Mexican authorities to immediately implement measures to allow Maude Versini to visit her three children without restrictions, said her lawyer, Jaime Aparicio.
The commission, an autonomous body of the Organization of American States, called on Mexican judicial authorities to move quickly to resolve the custody case, Aparicio said.
Versini, who had asked the commission to intervene, saw her children in December for the first time in three years, at a judicial center in the central Mexican city of Toluca.
Arturo Montiel, a former governor of Mexico state, is considered a political mentor of President Enrique Pena Nieto. He married Versini in 2002 and the two separated five years later.
