Mother receives baby in envelope

Danielle Tivey was pregnant with twins. She gave birth to a healthy son in 2007 but tragically his twin died. When she wanted to take her stillborn baby the hospital handed her an envelope, reports The Sun. Danielle was handed parts of the dead baby along with skin and tissue samples in a packet. Physically unwell, Danielle couldn't take it and she suffered from shock and deep psychological scars. She fought for 8 months for the hospital to release the body — but when they did Danielle was callously handed over a brown envelope containing skin and tissue samples in six wax blocks. Hospital workers bungled up with a crucial form indicating that the 27-year-old's wishes to keep the body of baby. Now Danielle won damages from Southend Hospital for their appalling apathy. She said, "I can't believe anybody could be so unfeeling as to behave in this way, let alone the NHS, which we turned to because it is supposed to be caring." The Southend Hospital apologised to the family for the insensitive way it managed the death.
