Major General Pilot Sheikh Ahmad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National and Reserve Service Authority, has attended the graduation of the fifth batch of female recruits of the national military services at Khawla Bint Al Azwar Military School.

''National service seeks to build the character of the conscripts, deepen the values of loyalty and sacrifice for the nation, instil discipline and develop skills, so they carry their responsibility and depend upon themselves and create an environment of fair competition and co-operation, and work as one team,'' said Colonel Afra Al Falasi, Commander of Khawla bint Al Azwar Military School, in her address at the ceremony.

Conscripts gained countless benefits starting from developing leadership skills, to building strong team spirit and enhancing self-confidence, she added.

The service is optional for women who will spend nine months of military training under the national and reserve service law at Khawla bint Al Azwar Military School in the capital, the first military college for women in the Gulf.

The service is made up of three parts. The first is basic military training. Next they will be allocated to different branches of the military based on their skills. Finally they will receive specialised training in a specific field. Trainees will also attend lectures on patriotic and religious matters of concern.

Later, Sheikh Ahmad bin Tahnoun honoured the outstanding graduates.
