Consultant neurologist Dr Farzana al-Sayed
Manama - BNA

Consultant Neurologist Dr. Farzana Al-Sayed praised the keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain's Government, represented in the Ministry of Health (MOH), on the provision of all sorts of neuro system-related medicines for Bahrainis free of charge, especially for multiple sclerosis.
Dr. Farzana said that prescription medicines for neuro disease are expensive. She said that the Government of Bahrain has always provided universal medications free of charge for all types of illness in order to alleviate the onus of financial costs off citizens.
She told Bahrain News Agency (BNA) that multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the commonest diseases amongst youths second to headache. It affects the immune system, leads to the formation of antibodies in neuro cells. These antibodies inflame brain membrane which in turn causes difficulty in transmission of neuro signals. She said that the symptoms of this disease are general body numbness, loss of feeling in some parts, difficult mobility or total immobility, imbalance and blurring of eyesight.
She said that the symptoms vary according to the type of affected neurons (i.e. nerve cells). In complicated cases of this disease, patients may become disabled, in case of relapses/recurrences.
She said that neurological and psychological diseases seem to be confusing to some people due to lack of health awareness or in rare cases because of lack of proper diagnosis.
Dr. Farzana advised people to avoid psychological pressures/stress, good nutritious food, sufficient hours of sleep and promptly consult a physician in order to prevent onset of neurological/psychosomatic diseases.
