Bangladeshi Prime Minister Shaikha Hasina Wajed received yesterday (Tuesday) the Federal National Council (FNC) Speaker, Head of the UAE Parliamentary Division delegation, Dr Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi.

The UAE delegation is taking part in the 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meetings, being held in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka.

During the meeting, Al Qubaisi stressed that the UAE leadership, government and people were keen to extend bridges of friendship and constructive cooperation to all world countries. She extended the greetings of the UAE leadership to Bangladesh President Mohammad Abdul Hamid and the Bangladeshi PM.

On behalf of the FNC members, the FNC speaker congratulated the Bangladeshi leadership, government and people on the Independence Day Anniversary, wishing more progress and prosperity to Bangladesh. Al Qubaisi thanked Shaikha Hasina for good hospitality accorded to the UAE delegation.

The Bangladeshi PM welcomed the FNC delegation, noting that the relations between the two countries were strong. She called for strengthening them through activation of cooperation in a number of fields, especially in areas of economy, trade and investment

The Bangladeshi PM expressed her admiration for the important role of Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, who demonstrated an international model for women empowerment in terms of capacity building, with emphasis on building the potential of Emirati women in all aspects. “Shaikha Fatima is a role model for us and all women worldwide,” she added.

She thanked Bangladesh for good organisation of the IPU meetings and hospitality, and praised the role of Saber Chowdhury, President of IPU for his efforts to make the IPU meetings successful.

The two parties also discussed ways to promote tourism and encourage efforts to sign open skies agreement between the two countries, which could further boost cooperation and increase investments.

The Bangladeshi PM hailed the UAE leadership’s vision regarding the economic and investment diversification policy, as well as adoption of values of tolerance, happiness and keenness on ensuring security, peace and stability in the region and the world at large. She also praised the UAE’s efforts in delivering humanitarian and development aid to different world countries, as well as tackling the refugee issue
