HRH Princess Basma bint Talal, President of the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW), received Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), who is currently heading the Council's delegation to the Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP), which was held in Amman.

The summit was held under the theme, 'Women in Politics: Fast Forward,' and was attended by 260 women parliamentarians from 89 countries to share experiences and best practices on women's role in policy making.

Princess Basma welcomed Dr. Al Qubaisi and her accompanying delegation from the FNC, including Afra Rashid Al Basti, Aza Sulaiman bin Sulaiman, Aysha Salem bin Samnouh, Naama Abdullah al Sharhan and Alya Sulaiman.

Dr. Al Qubaisi voiced appreciation for the advanced level Jordan has reached in enhancing the role of women in various fields, and praised His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan for patronising the 2016 Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP) in Amman.

She said the UAE is a pioneer in empowering women and encouraging their participation in political life, thanks to the support of its wise leadership and the close follow-up of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.

She pointed out that there are eight women ministers in the UAE's current cabinet, representing 27.5 percent of the cabinet formation and include a 22-year-old minister, the youngest minister in the history of the UAE government.

"This indicates how far the UAE women have reached in assuming higher positions and signifies the amount of progress made in the country's comprehensive development drive," she added.
