Eight Harding University faculty members received Teacher Achievement Awards during the annual faculty and staff dinner on campus April 25. Faculty members Tim Baird, David Bangs, Bob Churchman, Patrick Garner, Lori Klein, Randy Lambeth, Paul Pollard and Jeanie Smith are the 2013-14 award recipients. Baird, a native of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., has been a member of the University faculty since 1981. He is currently a professor and chair of the department of computer science. He has a Bachelor of Arts from Harding and a Master of Science and Ph.D. from University of Missouri in Rolla. Bangs, originally from Batesville, Ark., is an associate professor in the Cannon-Clary College of Education. He has been a member of the faculty since 2007. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harding, a Master of Education from University of Arkansas, an Educational Specialist degree from University of Central Arkansas, and a Doctor of Education from University of Arkansas in Little Rock. Churchman, assistant professor of accounting, joined the faculty of the Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration in 2004. Originally from Newport, Ark., he holds a bachelor’s from Harding, an MBA from University of Central Arkansas, and a Doctor of Business Administration from Anderson University. Garner has been employed at Harding since 1972. A Tyler, Texas, native, he is a professor of speech in the College of Arts and Humanities. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Harding, a Master of Science in communication from Illinois State University, and a Ph.D. from University of Oklahoma. Klein, originally from Birmingham, Ala., is an assistant professor of political science and public administration in the College of Arts and Humanities. She began teaching full time at the University in 2005. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Florida State University. Lambeth, professor of exercise and sports sciences and director of the athletic training program, has been at Harding since 1977. A West Plains, Mo., native, he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Harding and a Doctor of Education degree. Pollard, originally from Atlanta, Ga., has been a member of the Harding faculty since 1974. He is a professor of Bible and Greek in the College of Bible and Ministry. He holds a bachelor’s from Lipscomb University, a Master of Arts and Master of Theology from Harding School of Theology, and a Ph.D. from Baylor University. Smith, originally from Lubbock, Texas, has been a member of the faculty since 2007. She is an assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy, and she holds Pharm.D. from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Harding is the largest private university in Arkansas with 6,295 students. The University also maintains campuses in Australia, Chile, England, France, Greece, Italy and Zambia.
